Session 7 From Brian

Hidden between two low, grass-covered hills stood the weathered ruins of a once-sacred site—an ancient shrine devoted to Ziznarex, the Terror of the Black Marshes. Cracked and crumbling, the massive obsidian likeness of the dragon’s horned head lay toppled between two leaning pillars. Time and decay had all but erased the once-detailed frescos carved into the stone, now obscured beneath layers of moss and earth.

Long ago, this place had been the heart of a forgotten rite. Once each year, beneath a shroud of stars, the halflings of the Shyr Dynasty gathered here in secret. Through solemn ritual, they renewed their pact with the black wyrm—offering artifacts of power and ancient knowledge in exchange for his favor... or perhaps out of fear for what would come without it.

What You Found:

  • An opal pendant set in silver (30 gp)
  • 46 silver coins bearing the visages of long dead halfling monarchs
  • Three finely carved bone flutes etched with strange runes (15 gp total)
  • A damaged Amulet of Health that still functioned—but only raised the wearer's Constitution to 17
  • A half-buried Dragon Bust
As you sifted through the rubble, your eyes caught faint carvings worn nearly smooth by centuries of wind and rain. With patience and insight, you pieced together a buried truth:
This shrine had not merely been a place of worship—but one of bargain. The Shyr Dynasty’s power may not have come from wisdom or steel alone, but from a pact forged in fear with a dragon whose shadow once loomed—and perhaps still lingered—in the forgotten corners of the world.

Aulrick recieved a blessing from Ziznarex.

Several goblins—startled by your arrival—fled down the eastern road, disappearing into the wilds.

Later that night, under the cover of darkness, Hamid returned. There was fury in his eyes and murder in his heart. He struck like a shadow, attempting to assassinate Longshanks in his sleep. The attempt failed—but the message was clear:
Hamid had not forgotten what was done to him.

With the dust settled and Hamid’s attack behind you, several paths now lie open:
  • Head East: Continue along the eastern road toward the site where legends claim Ziznarex was slain—perhaps the truth lies buried there.
  • Check on Jenna: After recent events, it may be wise to return and check on Old Jenna, the one who offered stories, shelter, and sugar cubes.
  • Investigate the Shrine Further: The obsidian bust of Ziznarex still rests among the ruins. What secrets or lingering power might it yet hold?
  • Other directions that the party might pursue.
Your next steps could uncover ancient truths… or awaken things best left undisturbed.
