The Veil of Forgotten Ages

For as long as anyone can remember, history begins a mere 600 years ago. Beyond that, there is only darkness—a void of forgotten ages. No records, no relics, and no stories explain the world's origin or what existed before. The people call this enigmatic barrier The Shroud, a term that embodies both mystery and unease.  In this world, the divine and the arcane are elusive concepts. Temples rise to honor silent gods, their priests offering prayers to beings who never answer. Tales of miraculous clerics exist only in folklore, leaving worship to be an act of faith without proof. Similarly, magic is a whispered legend—spoken of in hushed tones but never seen. No wizards practice their craft, no sorcerers harness untamed power, and no warlocks strike pacts with the unknowable.  The existence of magical artifacts and relics is a matter of rumor and speculation. Bards sing of ancient blades that can cut through reality or rings that command the heavens, but none have seen such wonders with their own eyes. Those who claim to have are dismissed as madmen or charlatans.  The world is grounded in harsh reality, yet its people are haunted by dreams of something greater. The lack of magic and divine intervention leaves room for innovation and ingenuity. Scholars attempt to explain the world’s mysteries with science, while adventurers delve into ruins and forgotten places, hoping to uncover fragments of a hidden past.  And yet, strange occurrences defy explanation. Flickers of light in the dark, whispers carried on the wind, and inexplicable phenomena hint at something lying dormant—something waiting to be awakened. What is the truth behind The Shroud? Who or what existed before the history books began?
