Downtime in Umbrafell
A couple of weeks have passed since your return to Umbrafell, and the city has slowly settled back into its grim rhythm—though whispers of your exploits have stirred the streets near the Shaded Lantern.
The State of Garrith Veldane
Garrith Veldane is recovering steadily. Though his mind is still fragmented, his memories are beginning to return in pieces.
Togar has been spending time with him regularly, using both practical care, quiet wisdom and his local brew to help reassemble Garrith’s fractured mind. Under Togar’s guidance, Garrith has begun to speak more clearly about recent events.
One thing has become clear—the goblins have grown unusually aggressive, frequently raiding his estate. Oddly, they seem to have no interest in treasure, livestock, or food. Instead, they’re dismantling anything wooden—doors, beams, furniture—and hauling it away. Fresh tracks reveal frequent movement to and from the manor, all heading south.
Garrith has no memory of the mind flayer encounter itself. However, he speaks vaguely of a smaller brain-like creature he remembers fleetingly—its image frustratingly elusive and incomplete in his mind.
A Message from Haver’s Fen
Word has reached Prince Draven from Mayor Matlick of Haver’s Fen, the only permanent human settlement in the Altevir Basin.
The goblin activity has not gone unnoticed. Matlick has formally requested aid in driving them out of the Black Marshes, believing the raids to be tied to something darker festering in those swampy lands. Rumors of The Black are spoken about but little is known of at this time.
Your Growing Reputation
In the streets near the Shaded Lantern, the locals speak of your bravery in rescuing Veldane. While you're not exactly swimming in fame or gold from the common folk, the occasional drink is bought in your honor, and the name of your party , The Lantern Pact , is whispered with a mix of curiosity and awe.
Wealth and Resources
For now, you're flush with what some would call a small fortune in gold. Umbrafell is large enough to supply nearly any gear, goods, or upgrades you might need.
If you’re looking for something magical or rare, speak to Prince Draven—he’s begun gathering such items for trusted agents like yourselves.
+300 GP was given to you as payment for services rendered
+ 200 GP for bringing back the 2 cart loads of stuff from the manor.
Also see previous email detailing week 1 treasure.
Research Opportunities
Draven has granted you full access to the Umbrafell Library—a towering, echoing hall of dust and silence, long forgotten by most.
During your research, you uncover a few scattered mentions of Ziznarex, an ancient black dragon rumored to have enslaved an entire halfling civilization. Most texts dismiss it as myth, a fairy tale meant to frighten children… but the name persists across multiple scrolls.
Rebuilding Ravenhollow Manor
The Captain of the Guard has issued a public call for labor and protection at Ravenhollow Manor, offering solid pay for assistance.
Bards have begun to sing of the manor's liberation, inspiring an unusually high number of commoners to sign up. For many, it’s a chance at steady coin and a better life—something rare in Umbrafell’s grim economy.
You stand at a crossroads. Will you pursue the goblins into the Black Marshes? Seek out secrets in the dusty library? Help rebuild the manor?
The city waits. The shadows linger. Your legend grows.
We can roleplay anything outside of the above at the next session.
From Felix:
ReplyDeleteSo couple things, Session 1 and 2's loot.
Inline image
I would like to have 6 parts for all monetary treasure.
5 for each of us and one share goes into the party treasury for misc stuff. I am calling it the Hamid share.
Session 1 would be 9 gps each I am rounding down and Session 2 83 gps each. Total of 92 gps for the two sessions
I am keeping 3 things for further research
Crude map with markings of hideout or waypoints for bandits. I would suggest that is an option to follow up on the way to the marsh to help out Haver's Fen
Bone Talisman on leader's body. Gives me the creeps
Gnawed bone with strange cravings on it. Again creepy.
I will research in the library to see if I can come up with anything.
If anyone has skills to help with this it would be appreciated.
Stolen locket with portrait of a women on it. Worth 15 gps
I figured I would research it and keep it for the time being to see if it comes up with anything.
I will post in a day or two about what I am doing in my freetime and plans. Just wanted to get this out there so it is fresher in my mind.
Would someone be willing to setup a website like we have done in the past to make some of this communication and documents easier to do?!?
Thanks
I'm good with Felix's plan for splitting the loot.
ReplyDeleteI've studied a little history. If you think that will help with your research in the Library, I'm happy to help. But I should warn you, I've been kicked out of there twice before. They probably won't remember anyway.
In the evenings, I'll be checking for rumors and information at various pubs, inns, and houses of ill repute. Finger on the pulse and all that. After that, I'm ready to go check out the pulse in Haver's Fen.
